Moving

After some consideration, I've decided to move this blog over to the Wordpress platform. (I've been dissatisfied with the aesthetics of the Blogger theme for a while now.) While I will not be deleting this blog, all of my posts from 2014-on have now been archived at my new blog, Ceci n'est pas un discours, and all new material will be posted there.

For those of you who follow me here, I very much appreciate your support and hope you will follow me to my new digs. :)

After a long hiatus—during which I completed comprehensive exams, drafted a dissertation prospectus, applied and was approved for PhD candidacy, taught a forty-student stand-alone course on Asian Art, and participated in a pair of awesome (but demanding) seminars—I'm trying to get back to using this blog as originally intended. Summer break is here, and that means it's time to get cracking on the secondary sources reading list!

As a graduate student, working in the field of Japanese art history, my research has focused on early-medieval illustrated handscrolls and how the stories they depict reflect the societal conditions of the period in which they were produced. However, from an early age, my love of narrative art was carefully cultivated through movie-viewing and comic-book-reading.

This blog is intended as an outlet for me to explore ideas I have about the things I see, hear, read, and watch—with a strong emphasis on comic books, comic book movies, and topics related to them.

Essays are generally posted infrequently, but I am more active elsewhere on the web. For those who are interested, micro-commentaries and an assortment of random nonsense are regularly posted to my tumblr.
